2023 REGIONAL ART SHOWCASE: PRIMARY COLORS

A CALL FOR ENTRIES

Exhibit: June 5 - June 21, 2023

Submission Deadline: May 15, 2023

Enter up to 3 original submissions, 2D or 3D. Open to artists 18 years & older living within a 350-mile radius of Orange City. No entry fee. Work must be no older than 3 years. Submission details & timeline are below. Awards will be given for Best of Show ($150) & Honorable Mention ($75).

THE EXHIBITION

Orange City Arts presents the 11th Annual Artist's Showcase: Primary Colors. This Regional Exhibition offers an opportunity for artists to exhibit their work June 5 - June 21, 2023, at the Stadscentrum Building in downtown Orange City IA. Regional artists (residing within a 350-mile radius of Orange City, IA) are invited to submit work to the juried exhibition. This year's juror is local artist and professor, Rein Vanderhill. The show theme is Primary Colors, featuring work where at least one primary color (red, blue, yellow) is used as the main artistic element. The exhibition will also be available to view online at orangecityarts.org.

JUROR

Rein Vanderhill, local professional artist and Professor Emeritus of Art at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.

ELIGIBILITY & MEDIA

This exhibit is open to any artist, age 18 and up, residing in Iowa or within a 350-mile radius of Orange City, Iowa. Artwork must be original in concept, composition, and execution and must have been created in the past three years. Artwork may not have been shown previously in an Orange City Arts exhibit. All 2-D and 3-D media will be considered and must be ready to hang/present. Sawtooth hangers are not allowed. If you have work that you feel needs not to be framed, please email Orange City Arts at info@orangecityarts.net  to request approval. **The exhibition will not display any selected piece that arrives at the venue without proper hanging hardware.** Any submission that is considered by Orange City Arts, at its sole and absolute discretion, to be objectionable, in whole or in part, will be disqualified and will not be eligible for entry.

THEME OF EXHIBITION

The theme is ‘Primary Colors’; artists will submit artwork in which at least one of the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) is used as a primary artistic element.

INSURANCE

Orange City Arts will exercise all reasonable care in handling and hanging the art and does have limited insurance coverage. However, Orange City Arts assumes no responsibility for damage or loss to works submitted. Insurance is the responsibility of the exhibiting artist.

AGREEMENT

Works accepted for exhibition may not be withdrawn or substituted before the show's close. Orange City Arts reserves the right to install the works in any manner deemed necessary for exhibition or security purposes.

SALES & REPRODUCTION

Orange City Arts will finalize any sales of exhibited artwork at a price that the artist sets. Sales are subject to a 20% commission, so prices should be set accordingly. Works not for sale must be clearly marked "NFS." The Exhibition will also be available to view and purchase online.

The submission of entries presupposes that the right is granted to photograph accepted works for education and publicity purposes. The Artist shall be acknowledged as the creator and copyright owner of the Artwork. Otherwise, taking photos of the artwork during the exhibit is prohibited. The Artist reserves all copyrights to the reproduction of the Artwork except as agreed to in writing. 

PROMOTION

The Exhibition Sponsor shall use its best efforts to promote and display the Artwork appropriately and professionally. The Exhibition Sponsor shall clearly identify the Artist’s name with all Artwork and shall include the Artist’s name on all publicity images and text for any Artwork exhibited.

PHOTOGRAPHY & IMAGE USE

The submission of entries presupposes that the right is granted to photograph and or use artwork images of accepted works in education and publicity purposes. The Artist shall be acknowledged as the creator and copyright owner of the Artwork. Otherwise, taking photos of the artwork during the exhibit is prohibited. The Artist reserves all copyrights to the reproduction of the Artwork except as agreed to in writing. 

ENTRY PROCEDURES

There is no entry fee. Entrants are limited to three entries. Sets, e.g., diptych, may be classified as one entry. 2D entries may not exceed 38 in wide x 60 in high in size. 3D entries may not exceed 36 in wide x 36 in high. The sponsor reserves the right to make exceptions to accommodate the display space.

We request digital images only for jurying purposes. Submissions for must be quality jpg, gif, png or pdf images – 200 dpi and no larger than 4 MB.

The image must be a true representation of the work submitted. Orange City Arts reserves the right to reject work accepted which does not conform to the quality represented by the submission.

Include the artist's name, address, email, phone number, and work title in each submission. Under "Description," include medium, size, and completion date.

A COMPLETED ENTRY CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. jpg or png image.

2. Artist's name, address, email, phone number, & title of work.

3. Under "Description," include medium, size, date of production, & purchase price or NFS.

If you have trouble submitting online, please email info@orangecityarts.net. Include jpg, gif, png or pdf attachments of each entry, filenames formatted: "Artist Last Name - Title of Piece." Include the artwork medium, title, size dimensions, date of completion, purchase price or NFS, and artist contact information.

NOTIFICATION

Artists will be notified of acceptance by email by May 20. Further details on delivery and pick up of accepted artwork will also be given at that time. We will not be accepting or returning artwork through any shipping method unless prearranged.

LABELING THE ART

Art accepted for the show is to be labeled on a 3x5-inch paper attached to the backside of the artwork. Include the artist's name, the work's title, media, and sale price or NFS. If your work is a diptych or triptych, please note whether the pieces will be displayed horizontally or vertically.

THE VENUE: STADSCENTRUM ORANGE CITY, IA

The exhibition will be displayed in the Stadscentrum building located in downtown Orange City, IA. The exhibit will coincide with Orange City Arts’ summer OnStage series, a free arts concert at Windmill Park.

RECEPTION

A closing reception will be held June 21 at the Stadscentrum Building, 6:00-7:00 p.m., before the concert in Windmill Park. All artists are invited to attend; awards will be announced.

JURORS' CHOICES & PRIZES

Jurors will select a "Best of Show" with a $150 cash prize and an "Honorable Mention" $75 cash prize, to be announced and awarded on June 21, 2023.
